Today, two weeks after we moved into our new apartment, I finally took our oven for a test run and made some cha siu (Cantonese roast pork)! This is my first attempt at making cha siu, and I'm pretty satisfied with the results, but it's definitely not as tasty as my dad's! I was supposed to use pork shoulder or tenderloin, but instead I used a side cut, which is cheaper to buy here.
Meats are so expensive here in Korea. Depending on the cut, it can sometimes be as much as $15/pound! Later today, Gavin and I are going to a butcher to see if we can get meat for a little cheaper than it goes for in the supermarket.
I uploaded some pictures of our apartment. Take a look at them here. You can also view the photos of Seoul that I took in June and July.
