Lotus Flower Festival

There's a Buddhist temple not too far from here that's been holding a Lotus Flower Festival. Tomorrow is the last day. A few weeks ago, Gavin and I trekked up the hill (a lot of Buddhist temples seem to be situated at the top of a steep climb for some reason) to see the lotus flowers. It was just beginning to rain, and that somehow made the budding lotus flowers even more beautiful. I hope I have a chance to revisit the temple tomorrow to see them in full bloom.

Here are some pictures taken in August.

So far, life here is going fairly smoothly, although I have to say I'm still in "adjustment" mode. Although Koreans use many Chinese words in their vocabulary, the grammar is vastly different. The Korean language, like Japanese, has numerous "levels" of speech. Each "level" of speech has it's own way of conjugating verbs. In my Korean class, we are only learning the most formal way of speaking, so that we don't accidently go around offending people. Next week, 9 weeks into the course, we will start learning the "normal" way of speaking. Finally, storeclerks won't look at me like I'm crazy!
